Love at first site
On January 5 2009, I was overcome with the need for a certain black bag. Forget the fact that four days earlier I had once again rung in the the New Year with a resolution not to purchase anything I did not NEED, at least until March. But this bag—the “Jeanne” by Jane Mayle— weakened my willpower.
Of course I didn’t need a black bag but I did need, I argued, a smaller and thus more manageable black bag for weekends and evenings. So I calculated the cost per wear and set about buying it, only to discover it was sold out everywhere I knew to look. Determined, I turned to modern technology and begin to search the Internet. To my heart’s—though not my conscience’s— delight I found not only the bag, but a website that seemed to be curated just for me: La Garconne.
How could I have been oblivious to this site? Not only is the look of it an aesthetic aphrodisiac to my eyes, but they carry many of my favorite Of-The-Moment designers including, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Philip Lim, Boy By Band Of Outsiders, and Opening Ceremony (to name a few). And the collections themselves are edited down to the best pieces of the season.
Needless to say I bought the bag, followed by an Alexander Wang Pocket Tank two weeks later. So much for the resolution.
